FAQ

  • What is a sleep coach or sleep consultant?
The term sleep coach and sleep consultant can be used interchangeably. They both refer to a professional who is trained and specialised in helping adults & teens improve the quality and duration of their sleep. Please note that whilst I am trained to offer evidence-based strategies and techniques to improve sleep, I am not a sleep medicine doctor and cannot prescribe medication.
  • What type of sleep challenges can you help with?
There are many sleep challenges I can support with. The most common include: insomnia (difficult falling asleep, waking during the night or early mornings), stress or anxiety related sleep issues, poor sleep habits & routines, irregular sleep schedules, low sleep quality, low energy & tiredness, jet lag, work performance impacted by poor sleep, sleep during pregnancy, menopause and after having children, nightmares, sleep affected by another medical condition and more.
  • What age ranges do you work with?
Currently I predominantly work with adults, and teenagers aged 13 plus. I do not work with children or babies.
  • What does the term ‘holistic’ mean when it comes to improving my sleep?
The Good Sleep Method focuses on a holistic approach, which means I take into account all aspects of an individual's life, health, and well-being that might impact sleep quality and duration. Instead of focusing solely on one specific aspect, such as sleep hygiene or bedtime routines, a holistic approach considers the interconnectedness of various factors that contribute to sleep and aims to address all of these aspects to promote overall wellbeing.
  • What happens during the consultation?
We'll discuss your current sleep habits, challenges, and overall lifestyle, as well as how you would like to improve your sleep. We will explore any underlying root causes or contributing factors to your sleep disruption. Suggested strategies, techniques & recommendations will be made based on your personal circumstances. These will cover a mixture of practical or behavioural adjustments, combined with techniques to improve ways of thinking & mindset around sleep. Areas we'll cover may include lifestyle factors, specific sleep related techniques (such as CBTi), as well as sleep environment. You will leave with actionable steps to improve your sleep tailored to your circumstances. You can ask as many questions as you want during the session.
  • Can you help with insomnia?
Yes, insomnia is one of the most common challenges for my clients. I have a holistic approach to dealing with insomnia and consider the many factors which contribute to sleep disruption. The recommended first line strategy for tackling insomnia is CBT-i which has robust scientific evidence showing it's effectiveness. In addition, I also provide recommendations & techniques on lifestyle and behavioural factors which maybe disrupting your sleep, as well as ensuring your sleep environment is optimal.
  • I’m not sure my sleep problems are ‘bad enough’ but I still want to improve my sleep habits and routines, can you still help?
Absolutely! There are no issues too big or small. If you want to optimise your sleep to feel more refreshed & energised during the day and are ready to make some changes in your life, The Good Sleep Method is here to help.
  • Can I have multiple sessions?
Yes, you can book as many sleep consultations as needed. If you are struggling with long term sleeping issues, I'd advise to book a Sleep Coaching Package with multiple sessions to achieve long term results.
  • Do I need to involve a medical professional to improve my sleep?
The majority of sleeping problems can be vastly improved by assessing and making changes across an individual’s lifestyle & behaviours, as well as restructuring their thinking patterns and routines, and optimising their sleep environment. Sleep coaches are trained to recognise disorders that would require the intervention of a medical professional and will provide the appropriate referrals & recommendations. If a person is already under the care of a medical professional (for disorders such as for sleep apnea), The Good Sleep Method can play a complimentary role alongside medications and medical interventions to help people achieve healthy, quality sleep and improve overall wellbeing. Please note that whilst I am trained to offer evidence-based strategies and techniques to improve sleep, I am not a sleep medicine doctor and cannot prescribe medication.
  • I’m currently on sleeping pills. Can I still book a consultation?
Yes, I can work with people who are on sleeping pills, as well as those not using sleeping pills. Individual recommendations will be made based on your personal situation. Please note that I am not able to prescribe sleeping pills. Strategies discussed will focus on holistic ways to improve sleep.
